Derbyshire based pilot, Jasper Scarratt, is soon to be swapping his jet engines for pedal power when he undertakes to complete the arduous We Ride Flanders event which follows the route of the Ronde Van Vlaanderen Cyclo Sportive in Belgium.
Keen cyclist Jasper is riding to raise money to provide bicycles for staff and children at the Mission Mozambique (MiMo) charity project in Katembe, Mozambique. MiMo is operated and financed by Derbyshire based charity The Mission Mozambique Trust and currently supports a home for orphaned and vulnerable children whose lives have been decimated by HIV/AIDs.
MiMo’s project is located in a rural and remote area where children have to walk several miles each day to attend school and staff have to walk to work. By providing bicycles the journeys to and from school and work will be much easier and less time consuming.
Jasper, who is employed by TAG Aviation and flies executive jets all over the world said, ‘As I was entering this event it seemed a good opportunity to link my passion for cycling with such a good cause. Transport is a huge challenge for the children and staff at MiMo and this is just one way of helping. I hope lots of my friends and colleagues will support me by sponsoring my attempt to complete the course’.
The event, which takes place on Saturday 31 March 2018 preceding the professionals ride on Sunday, starts from Antwerp and travels 229 km through Flanders to Oudenaarde.
